Meet Nicole

Registered Clinical Counsellor

(Nicole's pronouns are: she/her).

CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

Nicole Marcia is trained as both a clinical counsellor and a yoga therapist. Her approach combines EMDR, existentialist, humanistic, narrative, and somatic therapies with a focus on empowering her clients to live more connected and embodied lives.

Nicole has over a decade of experience bringing a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach to her work. She has experience supporting those recovering from sexual assault, providing culturally competent services for first responders and public safety personnel, and walking alongside trauma survivors impacted by systemic violence and oppression.

Since 2004, Nicole has offered individual therapeutic yoga sessions and facilitated training for yoga and healthcare professionals in trauma-informed yoga theory and techniques. From 2008 – 2017 Nicole served as Director of Therapeutic Yoga Programming for the Provincial Health Services Authority at their Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addictions and at Riverview Hospital and Onsite, the rehab arm of North America’s first safe injection site. She has been invited to work with First Nations clients and students, including the Musquem (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), Tsawwassen (/təˈwɑːsən/), and Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw (ˈkʷakʷəkʲəʔwakʷ) peoples since 2019. Nicole is also a member of the Breathe Network, which connects survivors of sexual violence with healing arts practitioners, and has specialized training in supporting first responders with trauma.

Nicole is an Ashkenazi Jew of mixed European descent. She is a cis-gendered woman, a sexual assault survivor, and a loving partner and friend. Throughout her life Nicole has dedicated her work to the principle of interdependence – the notion that we are all connected. She continually seeks to align herself with the struggle against all systems of oppression. This ongoing commitment extends to leveraging her unearned privilege to create equitable and inclusive experiences for all and to confront and deconstruct the existing biases in her practices and beyond. Nicole strives to create care communities for transitional moments in life, develop meaningful partnerships, and address trauma in all its forms.
