Meet Shima

Shima Derakhshanfar works with adults, teenagers, and families who are struggling to feel a sense of connection and belonging. She believes our bodies and emotions attempt to communicate with us and guide us; however, unprocessed negative experiences,  trauma, and suppressed emotions can impact our ability to heal and connect with our deeper selves.

 

Her counselling style encourages a holistic approach to healing where she provides clients with tools for increasing mindful awareness of their whole human experience. Her practice focuses on the treatment of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She supports clients with a history of abuse, car accidents, experiences related to war and violence, bullying, family and workplace conflicts, challenges with parenting, life transitions, and grief and loss.   

 

Her approach combines a Person-Centered approach with EMDR, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Clinical Hypnotherapy, and Grief Therapy.

Shima holds a special gratitude in her heart for being able to help clients in addressing trauma and setbacks that have held them back in life. She believes each person has the ability to grow and feel better once given an empathetic and empowering environment.

Shima offers online appointments in English, Farsi, and modern Persian.
