Meet Nilou

Registered Clinical Counsellor

(Nilou's pronouns are: she/her).

Nilou Esmaeilpour provides therapy for individuals, couples, and families, as well as parenting support sessions. Her practice draws from various therapeutic modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing, AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), and Internal Family Systems.

She has completed several advanced level EMDR training certifications including working with shame, structural dissociation, and other complex issues. She engages in ongoing consultation with experts in the field.

Research shows that trauma hijacks the thinking brain and overwhelms the nervous system with alarms, stress hormones, and sensations that may be easily triggered by everyday events. This kind of trauma doesn’t respond well to reason because the nervous system continues to respond in ways that bypass the thinking brain.

Nilou uses a “bottom-up" approach to treatment that connects the thinking parts of the brain with the trauma-altered survival system to support self-soothing and nervous system regulation.

Nilou believes that the wisdom of our body, our emotions, and that which lies beyond our thinking brain leads us to the deeper truth of our being.

As Rumi wrote:
